"Mama? How did you and pa meet?"
"Hmm haven't I told you before?"
"Yea." Tya smiled cheekily. "But you have to tell me again anyway."
"Ok ok. Come here." The woman patted the earth beside her. "It was years ago during one of the more dangerous Firenation revolts. I was nineteen years old and I had left the Earthbending school to attend the Firelord's 25th birthday." She could feel her daughter leaning closer in anticipation for the story. She was so like her father.

Laina
"Why do you always do that?"
"Always do what?" Laina asked absentmindedly as she began separating her hair and weaving strands into tiny braids.
"That. All those braids."
"Oh these?" She paused, her blue eyes thoughtful. "I don't know." She smiled. "I guess it makes me feel like I'm still living in society."
"Living in society? Laina, you look like you're from the wild." She glared at him.
"Aster, if there was a prize on worst things you could possibly say to a woman, you would get it."
"What?" Aster gazed at her with innocent eyes. "I mean you're a clean, blonde, docile savage. Where's the insult?"

Those Nights
You know those nights when there's a crisp breeze that blows through your mass of hair that you always remind yourself you need to cut but never do just because of that sensation you feel when your hair twists and coils around your face in the wind, and you burrow your frozen nose into your scarf wrapped tightly around your neck and you're glad that your hands are nestled in the warmest gloves you could find because you can raise them over your head and spin and spin headless of the cold air around you, and then you think of something that makes you laugh out loud in the middle of the night with just the lampposts for your comp

Prince Roku kept his shoulders hunched and head down as he hurried back from the shore back to the palace. He knew he should've taken the palatine-he can't hear what people are saying when he's in it. He sped up. Problem was though, they were right. Out of the four royal children, He was the only one who couldn't firebend. And even with all the skills in

Tenzin yelped as he was simultaneously blown out of bed and doused in cold water. By the time he had regained all his senses the culprits were tussling in the hallway.
"They're acting dumb again." Sighed their thirteen year old sister, Khana. She was watching them with serious grey eyes. "Well Tenzin, you should probably stop them before it becomes a bending battle."
"Nah." Someone clapped Tenzin on the shoulder. "Let them have some fun!"
"Morning Kya" said Khana.
"Good morning children dears!" replied Kya with a broad smile. She was watching the fight with a curious

"You are cordially invited to The 25th birthday of our beloved and honored Firelord Zuko " Aang beamed. "Look how formal this is!" he unrolled more of the scroll and was about to continue reading when Katara bent to retrieve a slip of paper that fell from the scroll.
"Wait look at this. It looks like Mai's handwriting." They both leaned over to read the note:
Dear Aang and Katara,
Now that Tenzin is over a year old we hope you can attend. Zuko and I miss you and so does Lu Ten. There is always room and I hope during the temporary calm you can come stay in the palace for a while. Letters are not enough! Hope you can come!

After what seemed like too short a time they broke apart. Without a warning Aang swept Katara onto his back. Laughing, he opened his glider and with one sweep flew into the starry sky.
"Aang!" Katara yelled in shock.
"Shh you'll wake the others!" He smiled mischievously, cutting a series of loops through the air. Katara clung on laughing, knowing that he'd never drop her. She rested her head on his shoulders and closed her eyes. This was what she missed: his spontaneity, his passion, the joy he took from the simple wonders of life. When Katara's arms became chilled he landed gently back onto the terrace. Charged with energy, Ka

Chapter 1
The light was slowly receding from the large terrace where a woman sat cradling a bundle. The warm summer air licked her bare feet, a sweet breeze flitted through her dark waves of hair. All was quiet in the temple. The only sounds were a distant laugh deep within the cliff and the whispers of a husband saying goodnight to his wife. Katara was alone tonight. The young mother had chosen to remain with her new friends who came to live in the western temple so her son could learn the ruts on the stones and smells of his surroundings while his father was on diplomatic missions. He had been gone for two months; the longest the two had e
